Today

I connected ChatGPT directly to my Google Drive to see if it's a genuine productivity boost or just another novelty integration.

Once connected, ChatGPT can access your Drive through Work Mode and create:

  • New folders

  • Google Sheets

  • Google Docs

  • Linked collections of files

I ran two tests: a quick folder with a dummy spreadsheet, then a full mortgage amortization sheet with a matching document for a fictional house. Both held up well.

The one snag: it can't drop a live-linked Sheets table into a Doc, even though that's a two-second copy-paste by hand.

Security is worth a look too. ChatGPT can request broad Drive access, but it also lets you restrict it to read-only or require approval before it acts.
